[info]wilypueo sent me a link to the Yamato (Star Blazers) trailer for the live action movie. Pretty cool, but I don't put too much hope into it. Still, it got me inspired enough to draw Yuki (Nova).

First Post of the Year [04 Jan 2010|12:39am]

One of my resolutions this year is to draw more and specifically to draw more in my LJ. So here we go, it's my first post of the year and at least it's a little different from my usual. Avert your eyes and hide the kids there's a wee bit o' nudity.

My "Art Career" [03 Jan 2010|10:20am]

lemmingsolution
My art resolution from 2009 was to make more money from art than I did in 2008. The results are in: I made about the same amount as last year from Zazzle, but with the additional sales from the art show, I more than doubled the 2008 total! I'm so grateful to everyone who has enjoyed and supported my work (that means you, friends and internet friends!).

Art Goals for 2010:
--Create 4 more items similar to the current Zazzle best sellers
(Gulper Eel will be joined by Deep sea angler, and Fire Squirrel will get a Fire Pigeon friend...plus two more TBA)

--Update LJ once a week, and especially, draw comics again! GOSH

--Sell all remaining prints from art show on Etsy

--Make a web-based portfolio (that's more professional than LJ!)

--Take a class or find another way to get feedback from others, especially experts/professionals

--Find out what other venues might be possible for sales (licensing, local stores, etc)

--Make more than in 2009!

Plankton! [02 Jan 2010|12:23pm]

lemmingsolution

I had to make some abstracted plankton icons for a work project.... I compiled them just for fun. The various plankton depicted are (in no particular order): Copepod, polychaete worm, cnidarian medusa, barnacle nauplius, noctiluca (aka sea sparkle), comb jelly, shrimp, zoea larva of a crab, megalopa larva of a crab, and diatom. Also air bubbles and some extremely abstracted blobs.

Day 07 → A photo that makes you happy

http://pics.livejournal.com/amurana/pic/000af0wq/g41

too tired to fiddle with html, sorry

this pic was from midnovember when marc surprised me by giving me dorthy as an anniversary present. i was COMPELTELY shocked. i had been missing her something fierce. we went away to london for the weekend and had a fantastic time. this was taken on the underground midrevelry. it cuts our heads up and isn't the best shot of us, but that's part of the charm.
i had my girl and my guy and was feeling the love.

i hope to remember the trip forever. it was needed all around. the three of us get along crazy good in any combination, we had a chance to relax and laugh, we got to plan for the future.

seeing this photo makes me smile

--------------

Happy new year, everyone. May the year ahead bring us all surprise visits, spontanious adventures, and lots of love.

Day 06 → Whatever tickles your fancy

Jekyll & Hyde - Bring on the Men

There was a time
I don't know when
I didn't have much time for men
but this is now and that was then, I'm learning

A girl alone, all on her own
must try to have a heart of stone
So I try not to make it known my yearning
I try to show I have no need
I really do, I don't succeed

so let's bring on the men
and let the fun begin
a little touch of sin
why wait another minute
step this way its time for us to play
they say we may not pass this way again
so lets waste no more time
Bring on the men

I always knew, I always said
that silk and lace in black and red
will drive a man right off his head, its easy

So many men, so little time
I want them all, is that a crime (NO!)
I dont know why they say that I'm too easy
They make me laugh, they make me cry
they make me sick, so god knows why

we say bring on the men
and let the fun begin
a little touch of sin
why wait another minute
step this way its time for us to play
they say we may not pass this way again
so lets waste no more time
bring on the men

They break your heart
they steal your soul
take you apart
and yet they somehow make you whole
so whats their game
I suppose a rose by any other name
the perfume and the pricks the same

I like to have a man for breakfast each day
I'm very social and I like it that way
by late mid-morning I need something to munch
so I ask over 2 men for lunch

And men are mad about my afternoon 'tease'.
they're quite informal I just do it to please
those tripple sandwiches are my favorite ones
I'm also very partial to buns

My healthy appetite gets strongest at night
My at home dinners are my men friends delight
When I invite the fellas over to dine
they all come early, in bed by nine!

so lets bring on the men
and let the fun begin
a little touch of sin
why wait another minute
step this way it's time for us to play
they say we may not pass this way again
so lets waste no more time
bring on the men!

thinking about doing a playlist of songs talking about the awesomeness of sex with more than one person, specifically at a time. Two Ladies (cabaret), 3 (britney spears), i know there are others... hmn...

anyway, listening to a random sexy playlist tonight and wanted to share this one with you all. it's a bit of a copout, but hey, it tickles my fancy.

it's also very ME.

this. right here.

it's so true.

i love when people force me to 'check the back.' i get to go to the basement, see what bitchin cd they get to listen to down there, and have a tiny fun conversation. it's a breath of air before going back onto the shop floor full of assholes who don't believe me, the computer, or my OTHER three coworkers who already said we were sold out.

Day 05 → Your favorite quote

I've got books of quotes all over the place. fun little bits of inspiration and amusement.

i have a favorite quote from all the movies, songs, books, whatever... ever.

again, do i pick funny? moving? insightful? inspirational?

i think i'm going to go with something that fits with my inability to make up my mind.

"I want some more." - Claudia, Interview With The Vampire

A close friend and I once helped paint and set up a new work area for a school we went to so we could do our particular jobs better. I'm being vauge so I can claim deniability. Anyway, after everything was all set up just how we wanted it... we each carved our favorite quotes into the wall. This was my choice then, too.

fyi, hers was "I hate mondays." - Allison, Breakfast Club

i've always loved the sherlock holmes books

i was very nervous about the film. i love the people in it, but i really wasn't expecting much

OMG GO SEE IT NOW

it was like porn to me. so many things in it got me all hot. They really pulled off something wonderful. No, it's not the books. but it's there in a lot of ways that I can understand why and how it happened this way... did that make sense? i don't care.

had a great day with ben and leia
yesterday was a lovely christmas
had a hard long shift on christmas eve, but afterwards had a great night out with coworkers

i want to see sherlock holmes again. i want to own it so i can watch it nekkid and touch myself.

Day 04 → Your favorite book

i was a lit major in college. i decided in my preteens i would become a literature professor and have hippy class meetings on the lawns under big trees. either that or a librarian. i have a total love affair with books.

my favorite?

damnit.

do i choose based on what i've read the most times? yeah, let's go with that. and it's not one book. it's a series. Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the Little House series. Little House on the Prairie was the most famous, and became a popular tv show starring Michael Landon (Bonanza, Highway to Heaven).
"The Little House series is based on decades-old memories of Laura Ingalls Wilder's childhood in the Midwest region of the United States during the late 19th century. " - wikipedia

on the surface i shouldn't like it as much as i do. I'm not interested in the midwest at all. prairies freak me out a little, honestly. the pioneering days are not a timeperiod I ever focus on.

but this series grabbed me as a child and held on tight. i would go a year or two, forgetting all about them, my memory getting dusty. I'd find my boxset of the books and wonder what i liked so much. i'd start reading the first one again. before i knew it, i'd read them all for the umpteenth time. it's the story of Laura. As a child through to motherhood of her own. it's interesting, moving, inspiring, comforting. things were tough, but the family held on.

we were kindof poor growing up. Not poverty. I never went hungry. But we struggled. there were a lot of unhappy times where dad would work 10 hour days and mom would work 10 hour nights. lots of arguments caused by stress between them. it was sad sometimes. books were a good escape to places as rich as i wanted them to be. i could live the life of a king without having to worry about actually doing any of the war stuff. i could go to wonderland and neverland and be back for dinner. and with Little House, i could be reassured that things work out. Because they love each other, and families stick together. Even when Mary goes blind, they find a way to send her to that special school.

And it worked out. My family was strong and we stuck together and even if we were struggling we would still find ways to laugh and have fun. my parents got us out of panama city (beautiful, but a nowhere town to nothing) and managed to bring us into middle class.

So Little House is like a part of my own family. I really feel love for the characters. I'm glad I have them in my life.
